Advanced methods for materials research

A brief review of advanced research methods such as high spatial resolution Auger electron spectroscopy (FE-AES), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high spatial resolution scanning electron ...microscope (FE-SEM), equipped by analytical methods such as energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS) and wave dispersive X-ray analysis (WDS), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), high resolution transmission electron spectroscopy (HR-TEM) with EDS and STEM and their use in metallurgy is presented. A combination of all available methods and the new advanced techniques for sample preparation make a powerful combination to resolve a large number of problems encountered in metallurgy. Several selected examples of such problems studied in the author's laboratory are presented also.
