  • Klastični sediment v Potočki zijalki = Clastic deposits in the Potočka zijalka Cave
Kralj, Polona ; Pohar, Vida, 1934-2022
Würm clastic deposits in the Potočka zijalka cave contain numerous fossils of large mammals and the remains of Aurignacian culture. The sediment is an extremely poorly sorted mixture of gravel, sand, ... silt and clay occurring in various proportions. Allochtonous component is particularly diverse in composition, grain-size and shape. It consists of poorly rounded rock fragments derived from Permian-Carboniferous shales, well rounded granules andfine-grained pebbles of dominantly carbonate composition, heavy minerals of metamorphic origin and clay minerals. The allochtonous component in the autochtonous sediments of the entry part of Potočka zijalka cave was probably deposited by ephemeral torrential streams, which eroded Tertiary sediments. Permian-Carboniferous shales, creek channel deposits and gravel. Their energy was high enough to redistribute the bone remains and deposit them with with unsorted sediment. However, there is a possibility than they were deposited inthe vicinity of the cave and subsequently brought into the cave by Aurignacian hunters.
