Tailored blanks for household appliances - modern sheet metal forming technology for the Slovene industry

ǂThe ǂtechnology of tailor-welded blanks (TBs) has developed in response to demands for weight reduction and greater product rigidity. In the world, the automotive industry is the main field of use ...of tailored blanks. The research work presented in this paper was performed in cooperation with Gorenje, a Slovene manufacturer of household appliances. The introduction of TBs into the production of stove ovens was evaluated. The forming of tailored blanks using the existing conventional forming tools was tested from the viewpoint of increasing the depreciation of these tools with minimal disturbances of the production process due to changes in technology. The forming of tailored blanks in conventional tools was analysed primarily using FEM and experiments on test workpieces. The technological window of drawing limits was defined for the deep drawing of tailor-welded blanks made from DC04EK annealing steel. The knowledge acquired in the forming of test workpieces was successfully transferred to industrial applications - production of the inner side of oven doors and oven cabinets.
