Decarbonisation of glass melting with hybridisation of energy sources [Elektronski vir]Krese, Gorazd ; Sever, Tilen, (materiali)In an effort to combat climate change, the European Union (EU) set to become climate neutral by 2050. This implies that energy intensive sectors, such as the glass industry, need to start innovating ... now in order to prevent carbon leakage. In this paper, the end-fired hybrid regenerative furnace concept is presented and compared against the current state-of-the-art glass melting technologies. Different hybrid operation strategies are evaluated in terms of energy consumption and efficiency as well as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, considering various scenarios for electricity generation. Depending on the carbon intensity of utilized energy sources, the hybrid regenerative furnace presents a viable option to decarbonise the container glass sector.Source: 17th SDEWES Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems [Elektronski vir] : October 6 - 10, 2022, Paphos, Cyprus (Str. 1-12)Type of material - conference contribution ; adult, seriousPublish date - 2022Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 134837507
