A laser is a device that emits light through stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. Fiber lasers are currently the subject of numerous researches, because they exhibit many advantages when ...compared to other types of lasers. They are achieving high average powers and good beam qualities. Good beam quality allows us to focus a beam on a tight spot, enabling precise industrial applications. They are also lighter, more compact and more efficient. We measured some parameters of an actual oscillator-amplifier type fiber laser with a direct diode excitation, like output power, efficiency, spectrum and beam quality. Through measurements we discovered a high efficiency of pump light, a high output power and came to the conclusion that the beam quality needs to be improved.
