Ogulin, Mateja ; Mali, Senja ; Gvardijančič, Diana
Intussusception is an invagination of the proximal bowel into its distal lumen, causing obstruction, compression and ishemia of the bowel. Main causes are mobility/fixation unproportion, the presence ... of a lead point and hyperperistalsis. The most freqent localisation is ileocolic, others are ileoileal and rarely colocolic. It occurs predominantely in children aged betwen 6 months and 2 years. Typical clinical signs are sudden colicy abdominal pain, vomiting and bloody stools. Later we find signs of peritonitis. Diagnostic sonography in the method of choice. Radiographic evaluation using contrast enema is rarely needed. Therapy of invagination is nonoperating reduction using hydrostatic enema followed with sonography. Operative therapy is indicateed when the patient is peritonitic. Ileoileo invagination often reduces itself in a couple of hours, if not therapy should be operative. We present a case of ileoileo invagination in a 9 mounths old girl.
