  • District cooling with absorption systems
    Poredoš, Alojz
Supplying customers with heating and cooling energy from district energy systems essentially contributes to rational use of energy and to environmental protection. In the past few years, the use of ... district cooling has significantly increased in some countries. The first part of the paper presents an analysis, of how district cooling affects environmental protection. It was established that the effects of district cooling were positive in the sense of increased efficiency of energy systems and decreased environmental damage. Furthermore, various district cooling systems with cogeneration and cooling energy storage are described in the main part of paper. Special emphasis is put on the use of absorption chillers in district energy systems. An effective single effect / double lift (SE/DL) absorption chiller which successfully exploits low temperature heat at 55°C is presented. The influence of the area of a heat exchanger on the cooling factor (COP) of the mentioned chiller is also analysed and an estimation of annual operating costs is given.
