  • SEM and AES characterization of aluminium foam alloy AlSi7
    Paulin, Irena ...
Metal foams are advanced metal materials with a large porosity (up to 90 %) and posesses many appealing combinations of physical and mechanical properties, such as high stiffness in conjunction with ... very low specific weight, high impact energy absorption, flame and heat resistance, sound absorption, low electric conductivity and low thermal conductivity etc. Metal foams based on aluminium and aluminium alloys are usually used for aerospace and aeronautics industry, armoured vehicles, car industry and related areas, shipbuilding, civil engineering, biomedical industry and sporting equipment. Studied aluminium closed cell foam alloy AlSi7 is one of frequently used metal foams. Aluminium foams with closed cell structure are produced with foaming agent (usually TiH[sub]2 or ZrH[sub]2), which is very important mechanical property for army and car industry. Investigations of aluminium foams alloy AlSi7 showed us interesting results of distribution and size of pores, density of material and distribution of chemical elements. For characterization we used scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersion spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and surface sensitive Auger Electron spectroscopy (AES) for detail surface analysis.
