    Efficient video surveilance and monitoring is becoming more and more importantin medical institutions, especially in centres dealing with drug abuse and drug addiction problems. In this article we ... present an automated video surveilance system which is being tested in Zdravstveni dom Trbovlje. Itenables connection of multiple video cameras and video preview on central orremote computer. Processing of video data is done on central computer which performs motion detection and object selection. When motion is detected the mechanism is triggered which saves video data in database. The system was upgraded from the basic version implemented in Centre for drug abuse and drugaddiction in Trbovlje (Slovenija). To gain better performance DirectShow is used for video display and for more elegant integration of multiple video cameras. Because of different camera locations motion detection algorithms arealso improved.
