    The first section of this chapter begins by introducing some of the most significant travellers from the Slovene ethnic territory, especially missionaries who visited East Asian countries between the ... seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Through their written testimonies, these travellers provided Slovenians with their first information about these unknown and distant lands. The first section continues by outlining the history of immigration of residents from East Asian countries, especially Chinese, in Slovene lands, and then addresses East Asian religious communities in Slovenia. The second section briefly presents the disciplines within which Slovenian researchers study various aspects of East Asian cultural heritage. The third section, referring back to the first, outlines a critical questioning of Orientalist assumptions and introduces new methodological approaches used by Slovenian researchers.
