  • Assisted reproduction [Elektronski vir]
    Posavčević, Vesna
Assisted reproduction refers to the direct interven- tion of humans in controlling or even replacing the natural process of reproduction through artificial or partially artificial methods, with the ... goal of achiev- ing pregnancy when nature fails (Chatzinikolaou, 2010). Assisted reproductive technology (ART) rep- resents a significant scientific advancement in addressing these challenges and achieving the goal of parenthood. Reproductive technologies are widely used in the treatment of human infertility, but they also have broader applications. Some of these technologies are designed for fertile couples, for instance, for genetic reasons or to reduce the risk of transmitting certain infectious diseases when pregnancy is desired. This term also encompasses reproductive techniques that involve third parties, such as sperm donation or surrogate motherhood. In addition to therapeutic methods for addressing infer- tility, the ethics of assisted reproduction also involves diagnostic techniques that assess the con- dition of embryos either prior to implantation or before birth (Chatzinikolaou, 2010).
