    The report MEDIA AND PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN (1 TO 6 GRADE) IN SLOVENIA presents primary data collected in the year 2023 in the form of attitudes, opinions, and assessments of the parents of primary ... school pupils from first to sixth grade on the national level. The accumulation of this statistical base, with focus on the mentioned vulnerable group was accomplished for the second time on the Infrastructure Program – collection, management and archiving of data on media literacy in Slovenia. The comparability of the results of current analyzes with findings of previous works by Rek and Milanovski Brumat (2016) embodies a significant contribution to both the public as well as to the professional and scientific spheres, since the inventory of procedures, trends, and variations of this field countrywide, in addition to raising awareness, also enables better planning and implementation of relevant initiatives and policies regarding media literacy of various parts of society. Finally, the expansion of the records in question, whose qualities include its volume and interval data collecting, simultaneously initiates and supports various possibilities of further research. Research on the media and elementary school children in Slovenia took place over a three-month period between February 15th and May 15th, 2023, and incorporated: a review of relevant literature and existing databases; preparation and testing of the survey questionnaire; acquisition, arrangement, archiving and analysis of data using methods of descriptive statistics; and lastly, presentation of the results in the form of a final report. All answers were obtained using an online survey questionnaire by the participating parents, while the content of the measuring instrument refers to the following aspects: the presence of media devices; media habits of children and parents; limitations and opinions of the respondents regarding the use and effects of the media on the child; parents' familiarity with the guidelines for the use of screens by children and adolescents; their trust in the media and their verification of information obtained from different media; reflexivity of the respondents. Moreover, we determined the scores of the three timeframes of exposure to media and screens of the children and parents of the sample at 0.33 and 0.66 percentiles based on the example of previous work (Rek, Milanovski Brumat 2016) and thus we got groups of large, medium, and small users of m/s for parents and children of all ages, and additionally also children of the first and second triad separately. To sum up, the representativeness of the material is also enhanced by the demographic data, which can be compared with official statistics (SURS 2023), some insightful paradata was also included in the report.
