    Colins are bacteriocins synthesized by a large number of Escherichia coli isolates. The role and mode of action of pore-forming colicins are very similar. The regulation of expression of structural ... genes of different colicins could be therefore quite similar, too. On the other hand strains can produce more than one colicin and cell use individual regulatory proteins in different ways to regulate their production. In the present report we used a cka-lacZ fusion and beta-galactosidase activity was measured to determine cka expression during growth. Our results indicate that expression of gene cka increases in the stationary phase due to depletion of nutrients and that ppGppis a positive effector of the cka gene expression.
